Chance Meetings

Chance meetings happen all the time but some can have a dramatic affect on which paths we head down, how far we go or even if we achieve what we set out to do. Writing this blog is the result of a chance meeting. How many times have I cruised around the web picking up information here and there, reading other blogs and thinking these activities, these voices, these topics are written by writers and I'm not a writer. I mean, I write but I'm not really a writer.
What could I possibly have to say that anyone would want to read or have an interest in. And that's where it all ended ... until now. I have come to realize that this blog is simply about me. What I think, perceive and feel and not about anyone else's take on things. They can get their own blog!
So that leads me back to my initial thought. Can a chance meeting change your path or was this the path you were always meant to travel? Is a chance meeting really fate directing you down a predetermined route that you are destined to travel despite your delays, your false starts or your lack of will? How many people do you meet in a day (chance meetings) that have no affect on your life? What is it about meeting that one person that changes your direction or gives a much needed nudge in a certain direction? Is it all predetermined; just a matter of time? What is it about that one encounter that gives you impetus to take a step you have been avoiding for ... ever?

My chance meeting happened at work. It was a day where most of the staff was away and I was working on saving the world, or, at any rate, my little portion of it. And ... I was doing a damn fine job of it. I received a call from the Media Department regarding an interview at 1pm for someone in our department who was absent. I managed to get a call through to the journalist and set something else in motion with another member of the Department. And could I interview you, she asked, sounds like you have a pretty interesting job .... and so it went.

That meeting with Julie led me to delve into areas of interest that have lain dormant for far too long. I now follow a course of action that leads me down a new road, one that perhaps I should have travelled many years ago. All this because I met someone who was generous with her time, her ideas and encouragement but most of all for her enthusiasm in expressing her wish for someone else to find what she has found. All this because of a chance meeting. Thanks, Julie.
